Dr. Laurie?

Before Acting, Hugh Laurie Considered Making Real 'HOUSE' Calls

http://foxallaccess.blogs.fox.com/2011/03/28/before-acting-hugh-laurie-considered-making-real-house-calls/

For seven seasons, Hugh Laurie has played Dr. Gregory House on the FOX hit drama, House. At one time in his life before he made acting his profession, Laurie actually considered becoming a doctor. However, he told us that it’s much easier to research how to play a doctor, than to actually go to medical school to become one. (Click on the audio player to hear Hugh Laurie)

Kitty: Is it true this is Lisa Edelstein's last season on House?!

Don't panic! A source close to the situation confirms that no one in the cast is signed for next season yet, because the studio and the network still need to work out the deal for there to be a next season. Once that's all sorted out, then there will actually be money to pay actors, and then we'll know something for sure either way.

Olivia Wilde Teases on House/Thirteen Roadtrip (Spoliers)

‘HOUSE’: OLIVIA WILDE TEASES ON HOUSE/THIRTEEN ROAD TRIP
 http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/03/29/house-greys-anatomy-fringe-spoilers/

It’s been far too long since we’ve seen Olivia Wilde step into her scrubs and in the show’s landmark 150th episode, airing April 11, we learn why: Thirteen’s been in the slammer! And if you think you’re curious to find out why, just wait until you see how desperate House is to crack the case in this incredibly wrenching (and fantastic!) episode.

“I have to say, this episode is probably my favorite that I’ve ever done on the show. It explores her return, but it kind of takes the scenic route,” says Wilde, speaking exclusively with EW.
Desperate to find out more, House shows up at the prison gates to collect Thirteen when she is released and ends up taking her on road trip with the goal of getting the truth out of her — and he does. (This is House, after all.) But it comes at a price. “In order to sort of melt her steely resolve, he has to show a little bit of his own vulnerability, and I think that’s what makes their interaction ultimately really kind of unusual and really interesting,” Wilde says. “He’s reaching out to her and showing her his rawness. I think that’s what encourages her to open up. It also comes after several attempts to throw him off the course. She tries to throw him off the scent, but it doesn’t work because he’s too smart. She eventually has to give it up.”

As for what the secret is…oh, I can’t tell you that. But I can tell you that it’s sort of a secret wrapped in another secret, wrapped in another secret, all of which leads to an amazing moment. By the end of it, you’ll never want Thirteen to leave again. At least, that’s what Hugh Laurie thinks.

“I’d bet money no one will figure out why she’s in jail before we tell them because until I read it I had no idea,” he says. “I think our fans will be left salivating.”

Taking guesses (and bets) in comments.

How did Thirteen get into the Slammer?

HOUSE Mystery: What did Thirteen do?!

http://www.tvline.com/2011/03/house-mystery-what-did-thirteen-do/
By Michael Ausiello

Holy twist, Batman: Turns out when Olivia Wilde’s Huntington’s-afflicted Thirteen tendered her leave of absence last May on House, she wasn’t jetting off to some foreign land to undergo an experimental medical treatment — she was going straight to jail!
The bombshell was dropped into a Fox press release previewing the Fox hit’s April 11 episode:
“Thirteen has been in prison for the past year, but the real mystery for House is what she did to get there. When she exits the prison, she is taken aback to find him waiting for her, and unaware he’s got plans for the two of them for the next few days. As House probes Thirteen for more information about her crime, intent on solving the puzzle of her mysterious incarceration, they travel to an annual spud-gun competition and join forces to compete against House’s much younger, overconfident rival, and along the journey uncover secrets and truths about each other.”
Earlier this year, House creator David Shore hinted to TVLine that Wilde’s comeback would confound expectations. “We have something very cool in mind,” he said. “We’re writing an episode built largely around her return. I know [fans] are speculating about what happened to her during her absence, and I don’t want to rule anything out.”
Getting back to the question posed in the headline, why did Thirteen get tossed in the clink? Sounds like the perfect topic for a poll question!

Season Finale Guest and Title Revealed!

http://www.tvline.com/2011/03/house-season-finale-spoiler-shohreh-aghdashloo/

by Michael Ausiello

If my hunch is right, House fans are gonna love this news, and Huddy fans are gonna hate it: Shohreh Aghdashloo has just signed on to appear in the Fox hit’s season finale.
Why will fans of the show love it? Uh, because the 24 alum kicks ass — she’s not only an Oscar nominee, she’s an Emmy winner. Hello?!
But, like I said, Huddy fans might not be so excited if I’m correct in guessing that she’ll be playing Doc Crankypants’ new mother-in-law, which would translate to his recent green-card marriage having legs.
Mind you, I don’t know for sure that the new missus’ mom is who Aghdashloo will be playing — details about her role are being kept under wraps for now. It’s entirely possible Aghdashloo is just the patient of the week. But you have admit, Aghdashloo bears a strong resemblance to the new Mrs. House, actress Karolina Wydra.
One thing I know for sure about the finale: The title is, “Moving On.” A reference to Huddy perhaps? Hit the comments with your theories. And toss in some speculation about Aghdashloo’s character while you’re at it.

Ausiello: Wrong. I’m pretty sure they’re together for the rest of the season. In fact, there’s talk the actress playing Mrs. House — Karolina Wydra — might be back next season.

Question: There’s a rumor going around that Wilson will die in the season finale of House. Say it ain’t so, Ausiello! —Cherie
Ausiello: It ain’t so. There are no major deaths coming up on House. This season.

Amber Tamblyn Interview on Leaving House

Amber Tamblyn: Before Leaving House, Masters Will Have a 'Juicy' Encounter with Thirteen

by Matt Webb Mitovich

House‘s titular diagnostician won’t have med student Martha Masters to push around much longer. As first reported by TVLine, Amber Tamblyn‘s run will wrap up by season’s end, if not before May sweeps. And the actress’ decision to discharge herself from Fox’s hit medical drama didn’t come easy. “There is a reason I’m leaving,” Tamblyn shared as part of this in-depth interview with TVLine, “and it’s a really good reason.”

Read on for more about that, the big Joan of Arcadia reunion she enjoyed before checking out of Princeton-Plainsboro, and how “juicy” things will be when Masters gets Thirteen’s number. (House airs Mondays at 8/7c.)

TVLINE | How has it been for you, vying to be the voice of reason against Dr. Cranky Pants all season long?
You mean Dr. Hottie Pants? Dr. Sexy Face? I shot my last episode, and I’m sad to be done, but it was a really fun experience, something I would never take back.

TVLINE | You’ve had some really great verbal volleys with Hugh Laurie.
Yeah, they were really cool in writing me some great stuff when they didn’t have to do that. I could have just been the background doctor person, but they were great to me as an actor.

TVLINE | And wasn’t Masters fired once or twice along the way…?
Masters has been fired so many times by House, I can’t even keep track. [Laughs] When someone asks about that, I’m like, “Yeah, which time?”

TVLINE | Toward the end of last week’s episode, Masters said, “I was wrong, ” to which House said, “Not yet.” Was it your interpretation that he realized he went too far by “blowing up” that guy’s heart?
No, I don’t think he ever feels like that. [Laughs ] I think he was not being the champion that he usually is about himself. Normally he would be, “Ha-ha, I told you so. Idiot.” This is just a darker way of him expressing that he’s right without being egotistical about it. It was interesting to see, leading up to that, how he’s off of his game because of what’s going on with Cuddy, and his inability to make that work. He can get everything else in his life to work exactly the way he wants it to, but he’s pretty much handicapped in the relationship department — much the way Masters is in the social department.

TVLINE | At the end of the day, will Masters be better or worse for this experience?
I think she’ll be both. When characters leave House, they are forced to grow exponentially — whether it’s in a good way or in a bad way. [In the end] it’s a pretty fascinating thing that happens for her. It’s pretty unique.

TVLINE | This Monday’s Patient of the Week is played by Chris Marquette (Joan of Arcadia)– someone you know just a bit.
Yes, indeed! That’s actually happened twice now, because Sprague Grayden was on House [in mid-January]. But Chris and I worked pretty heavily together on Joan of Arcadia, so it was clearly as if nothing had ever changed. Like, I was making an inside joke that only he and I would know. Chris has an infectious laugh the way that Jason Ritter (The Event), who played my brother on that show, does, and it makes you want to make them laugh harder. Chris’ character is a pretty serious one for House, but still, we would get each other to laugh.

TVLINE | Was it pure coincidence that he was cast?
Total coincidence. In fact when I told the director, he was like, “Oh my god, I wonder what that would have done to my choice in casting him had I known that?” But we’re totally different characters than we were on Joan of Arcadia [playing boyfriend/girlfriend].

TVLINE | Before you leave House, will there be any overlap with you and Olivia Wilde?
We have two episodes — one where we actually work together — and it was super, super fun.

TVLINE | Does the fact that Thirteen is back (starting April 11) have anything to do with why Martha leaves?
No, it had more to do with us the actors. They really wanted me to stay, but there are reasons I have to leave, because of other things I’m doing. It was my 13th episode, and that’s when Olivia had finished her film and was due back. But I was glad — I was going to be real peeved if I didn’t get to do something with her, because I’ve heard nothing but amazing things. My boyfriend (actor/comedian David Cross) has worked with her, and I’ve heard she’s a really rad chick that I would get along with well. If they hadn’t given us at least one scene, with me being the only other female team member, it would have been a missed opportunity. I think they knew better than to pass that up, so they gave us some really cool scenes together. It will be definitely juicy for House fans.

TVLINE | So what are your plans for the spring, if not House?
I am taking a little break and adapting a book that I worked three years trying to buy the rights to.

TVLINE | So although leaving was a difficult decision, it was the right decision.
House is such a great environment to work in, exactly what every actor wants – good writing, steady work, great actors and great producers. I was the most sad to say goodbye to Hugh, because he’s the most incredible and giving actor to work with.

House fans, will you miss Masters when Tamblyn’s time on the show runs out later this spring?

Season 7 Air Schedule

Latest from EW - March 18, 2011

House scoopage please. Tell me that Huddy isn’t over! Please! – Bill
I would…but I can’t. Sorry, Bill. From the sounds of it, Huddy is certainly over for the time being. Lisa Edelstein tells me that while she thinks “they’ll always love each other,” their relationship is, for the time being, pretty much done. “She didn’t say she fell out of love with him, she just said she couldn’t handle a relationship with him,” she says. “I think the people who are really, really Huddy obsessed will only be happy with Huddy, but that’s not what the show is about. It’s about his journey, and she’s a part of his journey. Their relationship will continue in whatever form it continues. Every relationship is a valid form. So perhaps now they can get even closer in other ways because they’ll no longer be tangled in that specific way.”

The Doctor Is Out | If you thought the House/Cuddy dynamic was prickly before they paired up only to peter out, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Lisa Edelstein told me that the break-up stands to “add a lot of really great texture to how they have to deal with each other.” That’s right, neither party will be scurrying off to a new job to dodge old hurt. “These are two grown-up complicated people who love what they do,” Edelstein explains, “so I think they will, no matter what, always find a way to continue doing what is their life.” During this difficult time, might Cuddy get a comforting dose of warm and fuzzy when her mom returns in Episode 20? “No, definitely not,” Edelstein says with a laugh. “They are still at each other’s throats.”

David Shore about Huddy Bombshell

Exclusive: House Creator on the Huddy Bombshell and What Lies Ahead

By Michael Ausiello

Warning: If you have yet to watch Monday night’s episode of House, run — don’t walk — to the nearest emergency exit. Everyone else, onward and downward…
To all the Huddy fans out there, I am sorry for your loss.

In the closing minutes of this week’s much-hyped, retro-tastic House, Cuddy (played by Lisa Edelstein) pulled the plug on her months-long romance with Dr. Crankypants (Hugh Laurie) after she uncovered his latest deep, dark deception: He needs Vicodin in order to be a good boyfriend.
To make matters worse, the breakup triggered a full-on relapse for TV’s most prolific drug-addicted MD. In short, the long-running drama changed the game once again, and series creator David Shore is here with an exclusive post mortem.

TVLINE | Why did you break up House and Cuddy?
We knew it wasn’t going to last forever. We knew it couldn’t last forever. We had it mapped out since the beginning of the season that it was going to last almost exactly this long. It’s like anything else we do on the show. We go, “Let’s explore that. And once we’ve exhausted the exploration, let’s move on.” Now we move on to what it’s like for the two of them to be broken up, which is different than [anything] we’ve seen. And it all has to come back to the reality of these characters. I believe these characters are in love with each other. And I believe in a certain way they always will be. But I also believe House is not a good boyfriend. House is not a good spouse. He’s got deep issues, and the reasons Cuddy breaks up with him are very valid. Taking House down an ultimately happy road just seems unrealistic.

TVLINE | Is it fair to say the breakup will stick?
Yeah, it’s fair to say that. I can’t [say they're done] forever, but we don’t want to jerk the audience around.

TVLINE | When you were outlining the story, did you leave yourself some wiggle room in case, you know, the romance proved successful beyond anyone’s imagination?
That’s always a possibility. You never know how things are going to unfold. My bigger concern was that putting them together was going to damage the dynamic of the show. But I think we pulled it off. It was a tricky thing. Keeping House as House and keeping Cuddy as Cuddy [while in this] relationship was important to us. And it was challenging.

TVLINE | Were the elaborate fantasy sequences a way to cushion the blow for Huddy fans? Like, maybe they’ll be too transfixed by all the pretty bells and whistles to be too upset about the split?
No. If anything I was worried we’d piss them off more with the sequences. [Laughs] Whenever you do something [different], you get scared that you’re going to do it badly and that you’re going to alienate people. And it was important that we do it in a House-like way, and I think we pulled it off. I don’t expect unanimous consensus, but I’m happy with what we did.

TVLINE | How did the idea for the fantasy elements come up?
There was talk at one point about doing each act [of the episode] in a different genre, which I think would’ve been bad; it would’ve worn thin. And then we realized that there was an opportunity to do that in a limited extent. We used them to throw little grace notes out there that were important to the story.

TVLINE | House, it seemed, officially fell back off the wagon at the end of the episode. Is he back to square one now?
He’s certainly back on Vicodin. Probably fair to say he’s back to square one.

TVLINE | So, was his entire recovery period all for naught?
That’s the [big] question. That’s the challenge going forward. It’s frankly a timely issue out there. [Laughs] Staying clean is an ongoing challenge. And it doesn’t happen without slips. Sometimes extended and serious slips.

TVLINE | Would it be correct to assume that if House can’t be happy with Cuddy, he can’t be happy with anyone?
It’s going to be a challenge with anyone. Cuddy, on the face of it, was his best hope. But hope doesn’t die easily. And striving for happiness is not something that you can easily walk away from.
Thoughts on this week’s House? Did you love the fantasy elements but loathe the demise of Huddy? Or is it the other way around? Share your thoughts in comments.

YU MAD?

So me and @cristinahady (@huddyitaly) were discussing how crazy sad the Huddies are in the House Twitter community this morning from last night's episode. I described it as a jungle out there then Huddyitaly imagined "GY Tarzan version flying trough the screaming people with the lianas/ropes, smiling but with no words." And so this picture was created.
