SPOILER: Is Someone Getting Cut Off?

House First Look: Are They Killing Off [Spoiler]?

Good thing Fox renewed House when it did, or else these photos of Dr. Crankypants knocking at death’s door would take on a whole new level of urgency. Of course, that’s not to say House’s latest health emergency isn’t cause for alarm.
As revealed in the following clip from Monday’s penultimate season 7 episode, the experimental medicine Hugh Laurie’s drug-addled alter ego was pumping into his body was actually poison.

D’oh!

That’s one of two major surprises the episode delivers. The other involves a baby bombshell I first teased in this week’s Ask Ausiello. Basically, someone’s gonna be a first-time daddy — and that someone is unmasked in the second clip below.

House Renewed for Season 8

It's Official: Fox Renews House For Season 8

The doctors are in… some of them at least.

After lengthy talks, Fox has closed a deal with producer Universal to bring House back for an eighth and likely final season.

“Over the past seven seasons, House has redefined the medical drama and has given us one of television’s most compelling and iconic characters,” said Fox president Kevin Reilly in a statement. “From the producers to the incredible writers to the unbelievably talented cast and crew, the House team is fearless in its creativity and I can’t wait to see what they have in store next year.”

Curiously, Fox’s press release doesn’t mention which castmembers will be returning for season 8. As Deadline first reported Monday night, Robert Sean Leonard and Omar Epps have inked new deals, but it’s unclear where things stand with Lisa Edelstein and Jesse Spencer. Hugh Laurie, Olivia Wilde and Peter Jacobson were already under contract for an eighth season.

TVLine’s Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect the news.

Thoughts? Relieved the show will be back but anxious about the uncertain fates of Edelstein and Spencer? Hit the comments!

Ausiello Spoilers: 10/28/2010

via http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/10/27/ask-ausiello-house-glee-castle/

Question: House scoop? —Jennifer

Ausiello: House pink-slips a member of his team during November sweeps. Not once, not twice, but three times. Also, three major characters do some jail time.

Ask Ausiello: House Spoilers 10/20/2010

via http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/10/20/ask-ausiello-spoilers-glee-desperate-30-rock/

Question: I’ve missed House two weeks in a row due to work, which is very depressing. Can I please have some scoop to cheer me up? —Kim
Ausiello: You should check out this new product that just hit the market. It’s called a DVR. All the cool kids are using it. In any event, exec producer Katie Jacobs teases that Taub’s marriage will be tested in “a completely unexpected way” later this season. Might this be connected to a certain spoiler that ran in AA last week? Maybe. Maybe not.

Spoiler: Ask Ausiello - 10/13/2010

via http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/10/13/ask-ausiello-spoilers-ncis-house-glee/

Question: What happened with House spoilers? It’s like a desert nowadays! — Milena
Ausiello: There’s at least one significant breakup coming down the pike. (That noise you hear is the sound of Twitter exploding.)

Ask Ausiello: House Spoilers 9/29/2010

Question: Should we read anything into Chase’s sexual overture to Thirteen on House last week? Was he really interested in her, or is it just a case of a horny single doctor? —Elizabeth

Ausiello: Let’s ask exec producer David Shore, shall we? David, should we read anything into Chase’s sexual overture to Thirteen on House last week? Was he really interested in her, or is it just a case of a horny single doctor? “If there is something more going on there, you won’t see it for a while,” he says, “because of Olivia [Wilde]‘s movie schedule [taking her off the canvas].”

Ask Ausiello: House Spoilers 9/22/2010

Via http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/09/22/ask-ausiello-spoilers-glee-greys-gossip/

Question: Just out of curiosity, do you think House and Cuddy really have a fighting chance to make it as a couple? —Erin
Ausiello: If they can survive the arrival of Cuddy’s mother (as played by Candice Bergen), then I’m pretty sure they can survive anything. “House is going to meet her mom and she is a handful,” explains series creator David Shore. “It’s always nice to have House come up against people with whom, whether he likes to admit it or not, he has something in common. They’re not the same person, but there are parallels—and they’re not attractive parallels.” Bonus scoop: In next Monday’s episode, look for Cuddy to go to great, um, lengths to prove to Wilson that she is indeed dating House.

Candice Bergen as Cuddy's Mother

'House' Exclusive: Candice Bergen is Cuddy's Mom! via http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/09/15/house-candice-bergen-cuddy-mother/ by Ausiello

Hope they have a big secretarial budget over at House, because the Fox hit has just cast Murphy Brown—that’s Candice Bergen to you!—as Cuddy’s mother!
The comedy legend’s multi-episode arc, I’ve learned exclusively, will kick off in November January. And I’m sure I am far from the only one anticipating fireworks between Mother Cuddy and her new potential son-in-law. (“You hurt my daughter,” I can just hear her saying, “I castrate you.”)
Plus, Bergen’s gig, her first on the tube since Boston Legal closed up shop in 2008, seems likely to give Lisa Edelstein the kind of holy-smoke material that wins Emmys. (Please, please, please, please… ) It probably won’t hurt that Bergen herself already has five of ‘em!
So, thoughts? Great casting or downright perfect? Sound off below.

Ask Ausiello: House Spoilers 9/09/2010

via http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/09/09/ask-ausiello-spoilers-house-glee-bones/

Question: Have you seen theHouse premiere? If so, thoughts? —Robin
Ausiello:
Yes, I’ve seen it—it’s the reason this column arrived a little late. If you’re a Huddy fan, you’re going to swoon yourself silly. The Sept. 20 opener features the star-crossed lovers cuddling, bathing, massaging, champagne-toasting, and—of course—kissing. I think I counted a dozen smooches in the first 15 minutes alone. The episode will also answer the burning question “What does Hugh Laurie look like wearing nothing but a laptop?”

Question: Should we read anything into the fact that Chase is touching Thirteen’s shoulder in House‘s season 7 key art? —Nina
Ausiello:
After watching the premiere, I would have to say HELL YES, YOU SHOULD.

Question: How does House’s team—specifically Chase, Taub, and Foreman—react to House and Cuddy being an item? —Brandon
Ausiello:
To quote Dr. Crankenstein in episode 2, one is “in favor,” another is “indignant,” and a third is “indifferent.” Now head to the comments and match the adjective with the character! But first, repeat after me: “Games are fun.”

Ausiello's Emmy Interview with Hugh Laurie

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on 'House' via http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/09/01/ask-ausiello-spoilers-house-greys-bones/

Question: Where is the Hugh Laurie interview you promised us from the Emmys?! House fans are an impatient lot! —Gillian
Ausiello: First off, simmer yourself. I’ve had a lot on my plate the past few days, if you hadn’t noticed. Second, the interview is RIGHT. HERE.

So they’re finally going there with Huddy.
HUGH LAURIE: It seems that way.

Scared?
LAURIE: I’m scared for him. Terrified. But so far so good. Baby steps.

Are you happy they finally took the plunge?
LAURIE: I care less about what happens than how it happens. And if you do it right, it will work. And if we don’t do it right, nothing works. But I think we’ve danced around the idea long enough; it was time to take some action.

Is it safe to say that if it doesn’t work with Huddy it won’t work with anyone?
LAURIE: That’s a possibility. He might be fatally flawed.

Ausiello TV: A hot 'House' quadrangle

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on [H]ouse about Sela Ward and the new House Opening Title

Ask Ausiello Spoilers via Ausiello Files

Question: I know she's on CSI: NY now, but is there any chance Sela Ward will be returning to House this season? —Josh
Ausiello: No. That particular 'ship has sailed. This season's all about the Cuddster. "House and Cuddy alone in a room have had chemistry—that's never been in doubt," says exec producer Katie Jacobs. "Can it work in the real world? Can it work with them being coworkers? She's his boss, she has a kid, he's always breaking the rules... Can it work? I don't know, but that's the question [this season]. And she's not necessarily trying to change him. It's not like she goes, 'Oh well, I'll give it a try with House and hopefully he'll grow up.' He's never going to grow up. And she sort of thinks, 'I love him enough, maybe it could work. It's complicated.'"

Also, confirmation that JMo's name is being removed from the opening titles:

Question: I'm kind of obsessed with your story about House's new opening title sequence. How exactly will it be different? —Jennifer
Ausiello: Let's ask Katie Jacobs, who's working on the revamp as we speak. "It's not all new," she says, "but I'm making a few changes because Jennifer [Morrison] is no longer in the main titles. And I am changing a little bit more than that, but I'm not changing so much that you're losing what you love about the opening titles." Jacobs also confirmed that a "few new names"—presumably Olivia Wilde and Peter Jacobson—have been added to the opening as well.

Jennifer Grey on House

Exclusive: Jennifer Grey makes a 'House' call by Michael Ausiello
No one puts Baby in a corner… except Gregory House.
Dirty Dancing‘s Jennifer Grey will find herself in a no-win situation when she guest stars on House this fall, sources confirm to me exclusively.
Grey—who begins work on the House set today—will play Abbey, the mother of an infant daughter who is displaying signs of a life-threatening illness. As House and Co. investigate her daughter’s developing symptoms, Abbey is faced with a treatment decision for her newborn that could not only affect her baby’s life but also her own.
Her episode is scheduled to air in mid-October.

Blind Item: Hit Show Throws a (shocking) wedding

By Michael Ausiello and Allen Patrick

In the mood for a blind item? Good, ’cause it’s a doozie! At the end of next season, a couple on a successful show we’re obsessed with will be getting hitched.
I know, I know — it doesn’t sound shocking. TV couples get married all the time.
But trust me when I say, um, it is a mind-blower. Why? Unfortunately, I can’t really say. If I did it would be too obvious about whom we are talking. However, I can offer you a few clues…

1. It’s a wedding I was pretty sure we would never see.
2. The bride and groom are heterosexual. (Hence, bride and groom.)
3. The network in question is either ABC, CBS, or Fox.
4. And there’s an important piece of this wedding that remains a mystery — even to me. (OK, that one may not be much of a clue. But it’s true!)
Mind you, it’s very early in the planning stages, so anything could happen. The story could be scrapped. On the other hand, all indications are that the nuptials have been approved by the higher-ups at the network.
So… for whom do the wedding bells toll? Guess away below!

Hugh Laurie says 'Buckle Up' for Huddy

Hugh Laurie's Message to Huddy fans: 'Buckle Up!' via EW.com - The Ausiello File
by Michael Ausiello and Andy Patrick

Hard as it is to imagine, next season on House, Doc Crankypants may be — gasp! — happy. At least happy-ish. In fact, in the premiere, we’ll see him smiling, laughing and canoodling on the beach with at-long-last lady love Cuddy. Clearly, this can only mean one thing: The relationship is doomed, right? “I don’t think [so], necessarily,” Hugh Laurie tells me. “But let’s face it, neither of these characters has a clean license.
“‘Buckle up,’” he adds, “would be my advice.”
Lisa Edelstein, who plays House’s significant other, shares her co-star’s trepidation. “I was terrified of saying ‘I love you,’” she admits. “But I think that in that final scene of season six, Cuddy makes that clear that she’s ready to go for it.”
Laurie is ready, too, weird as it may feel to him. “Even the appearance of happiness [in House] has taken some getting used to,” he says. “I had a week of happiness training before the season started up, and I’m whistling more than usual.”
Is his small-screen counterpart whistling more than he did, say, when he was with Sela Ward’s Stacy? “I’ve always thought of House as a romantic, and I don’t think romantics are much given to comparing,” Laurie demurs. “But speaking as a friend of House, he seems to be attracted to strong women. He likes to get as good as he gives — and I mean that in as many senses as are suitable for a family readership.”
Your thoughts? Can Huddy make it work? Or is the beginning of their romance the end ofHouse as we know (and love) it? Sound off below!
