How are things expected to be working out for Huddy?

by maya295

Yesterday Fox threw its fall party in Los Angeles, the occasion for the network to promote all the returning and new shows that will soon be broadcast starting next week, on September, 20, which is the date when House, MD returns with its seventh season and one of the most awaited season premieres “Now What?”

The first episode is something you’ve never seen before, says Katie Jacobs, executive producer of the show, we’ve break the mold, we’ve break the formula.”

Last season, in episode 6.07 “Known Unknowns” House, encouraged by Wilson to take a step toward Cuddy and ask her out, had answered:

She’s not just a floozy in a bar. She’s the floozy I work for!

At that time already, it touchingly demonstrated that House was not the kind of man who would take a relationship with his boss lightly. And, it’s also good to see that the creators and writers of the show consider this “reunion” with seriousness too. Talking about the uniqueness of the season premiere formula, Katie Jacobs indeed adds: We wanted to take the opportunity to be with Cuddy and House and see how they come together. They’re not two people who just met in a bar and come home and have some sort of casual sex.”

So what is to expect then, once it is established that this season, (the writers) are exploring the relationship and it’s a real relationship for House”?

It sure doesn’t mean that things are necessarily going smoothly between House and Cuddy. Katie Jacobs is well aware of all the risks that the two lovers could be confronted to, as it seems that she has perfectly assessed the potentially problematic situations that could come along and challenge this relationship.

This season we face the issue: can he (House) be in a healthy relationship? He and Cuddy have certainly had sparks for so long, but will it work?: she’s his boss, they work together, she has a kid, he’s a giant kid…

This is undoubtedly some of the obvious questions that the creators had to take into account while cautiously planning this storyline.

Lisa Edelstein, who showed up later on the red carpet, answered some questions too and according to her, she (Cuddy) knows exactly who she’s involved with. I don’t think it’s a question of trying to change anybody,” she says, “I think it’s more about: can we actually do it as we are?

An exploration that Lisa Edelstein is openly and very spontaneously happy to experience: she (Cuddy) is involved with House. They’re having a love affair finally. She declared with an unhidden smile. The question of bad timing between House and Cuddy, while waiting for their cycles to match up, has been a leitmotiv throughout all the previous seasons between the two lovers and seeing them finally reunited is something that seems like a long awaited and logical step to take for the actress: I think we danced around it long enough. I think we kinda have to do it then deal with it and see what happens.”

However, faithful to her reluctance to hope for things to be all shiny and bright under House’s sun, Lisa Edelstein stays cautious about the future of the relationship: I don’t necessarily think it will work. It might, it might not, but at some point you just have to go for it.

Well, as it seems though, heard from Katie Jacobs herself: Right now (which is after episode eight has been wrapped and currently at the beginning of filming episode nine) things are working out pretty well (between House and Cuddy)”

We can reasonably then wonder what could seriously jeopardize this relationship. “(that’s always) the question with addicts, says Katie Jacobs, maybe putting the first threat above the happy couple’s heads, are they going to fall off the wagon again?

Certainly anyway, at the moment, it seems that nothing worse than a relapse could compromise the two doctors' determined want to give their relationship a serious try.

And even if, according to an interview Lisa Edelstein gave afterwards to Access Hollywood, it seems that the future of House and cuddy remains as blurry as it possibly can. When asked if the show is heading “towards a May sweep’s wedding or a May sweep’s disaster”, Lisa Edelstein, who bursts into laughers at the ‘wedding’ comment, answers:

I have no idea. They don’t tell me such things. I haven’t been fitted for a white dress yet, so…

We only wish House and Cuddy to succeed and find something of a happy equilibrium together in whatever path they’ll take in the future, even if, it seems unlikely that it will lead to the altar anytime soon.

So, what are your thoughts on the future of House and Cuddy? Do you think they have good chances to last as a couple? What kind of serious threats could really challenge their relationship? Share your thoughts!

Great article :-)
I hadn't seen that video before! Thanks!!
I think that they know each other so well that nothing can really compromise their relationship now that they decided to go for it.
I really look forward to seeing how they will find their equilibrium and rhythm between their work and private lives... It's gonna be fun, for sure. ;-)
